The invocatory slogam recited before the start of the class or performance.
The memory of screaming 'Angikam Bhuvanam' loudly in the class squeezed between akkas and annas is the embodiment of the spirit of the dance class. It is the invocatory prayer in praise of Lord Shiva to be recited before Namaskaram after the warm up session.
According to Abhinaya Dharpana written by Nandikesvara, which is considered one of the holy texts for reference the slogam is as follows:
Angikam Bhuvanam Yasya Vachikam Sarvavangmayam
Aharyam Chandrataradi Tvam Numas Satvikam shivam
The general meaning is that we offer our salutations or bow down towards lord Shiva who has the universe as his body, the moons and stars adorned as his jewels and who's speech is the harmony of all the languages.
Each of the words mean:
Aangikam – Body
Bhuvanam – Universe
Yasya – Whose
Vaachikam – Speech
Sarva – Everyone and Everything
Vaangmayam – Languages (Sound)
Aaharyam – Ornaments
Chandra – Moon
Taara – Stars
Aadi – and others
Tvam – towards that/ you (Respectfully)
Numas – Bow down
Saatvikam – Pure
Shivam – Lord Shiva
The slogam is followed by Guru Slogam, Saraswathi slogam and Hanuman slogam before Namaskaram.
